LAWRENCE — Police are looking for a man who stole a plastic jar containing an undisclosed amount of cash from a closet in an office at the Lawrence Road Presbyterian Church Sunday morning, according to the Lawrence Township Police Department.
A witness saw the suspect walk into the parking lot of the church on Meadowbrook Road around 10:40 a.m. March 6, police said. The witness said he saw the man a few minutes later, jogging on the sidewalk on Meadowbrook Road in the direction of Lawrence Road.
The witness got into his own car, followed the suspect for a short distance on Roxboro Road and stopped to question the suspect, police said. The suspect offered an explanation for his presence at the church.
The witness got back into his car and drove back to the church, while the suspect continued walking on Roxboro Road toward Princeton Pike, police said. Around the same time, police were notified of the burglary and theft.
During the investigation, police learned that the suspect was observed trying to open exterior doors to the church office building. A church member went to the church office building and noticed that a door to one of the offices had been forced open. The plastic jar was found outside, minus the money.
The Ewing Township Police Department’s K9 unit responded to help police search for the suspect — described as a black male, who was wearing a white and blue shirt and a wool cap with a fuzzy top — but could not find him.
