EAST BRUNSWICK – The East Brunswick Police Department is grateful for the public’s assistance in helping officers capture a suspected shoplifter.
On Feb. 8, a shoplifting occurred at Walmart on Route 18 in which an unknown male allegedly stole more than $1,000 worth of electronics, according to a statement prepared by the East Brunswick Police Department.
The suspect reportedly fled in a pickup truck with a snowplow and roof rack attached to it.
Walmart’s surveillance system captured the suspect and vehicle on video; however the license plate was not visible, police said.
Police were unable to identify the suspect and posted still shots of the truck and the suspect on Facebook. A citizen contacted police to report that he observed the truck in Old Bridge on his way to work, according to the statement.
It was subsequently determined by Det. Joe Bauer and Det. Lt. Mike Plaskon that the driver and alleged suspect was Joshua Chism, 29, of Jamesburg. A warrant was obtained and he was found by East Brunswick detectives at his residence, police said.
Chism was lodged in the Middlesex County Adult Corrections Center in North Brunswick in lieu of $10,000 bail.
