A community blood drive and bone-marrow swabbing, in support of Kenny Klemensits, a 25-year resident of East Brunswick and former president of the East Brunswick Soccer Club, will be held 10 a.m.-4 p.m. April 3 at Robert Frey Hall, East Brunswick Independent Fire Company, 216 Willow St.
Sydney Contrino, an East Brunswick High School senior, will host the event along with New Jersey Blood Services, a division of New York Blood Center. The drive is designed to help maintain the blood supply and build the bone-marrow registry for patients like Kenny who are in need of a match.
To donate blood, individuals must be between 17 and 76 years of age (16-year-olds may donate with parental consent form; ages 76 and above may donate with a doctor’s note), weigh at least 110 pounds and meet other requirements. Donors should eat before coming to the event and bring photo or signed identification. Medical eligibility questions may be answered by calling 1-800-688-0900 or coming to the blood drive.
Bone-marrow screening consists of a cheek swab only. Donors must be at least 18 years of age.
