Frank DelCore will stand as the Republican candidate for Township Committee this year.
Unopposed, Mayor DelCore was unanimously endorsed March 1 by more than 75 Hillsborough Republicans who attended the screening of candidates and the monthly meeting of the Hillsborough Township Republican Club.
Mayor DelCore, who has lived in Hillsborough since 2001, is in his ninth year on the governing body and is serving as mayor for his fourth year, previously holding the office in 2009, 2010, and 2013.
Last week, township Democrats presented Laurie Poppe, who ran in 2015, as their candidate. Only one three-year seat is up in 2016.
“I am honored to again represent the Republican Party this year,” said Mayor DelCore. “Since I was sworn in to office in 2008, I promised the residents that I would be a fiscal watchdog on the committee. That’s why I am especially proud that we spend less today then we did when I was first elected. It is truly a great honor to represent Hillsborough, one of the Best Places to Live in America.”
Filing deadline to seek a place on the June 7 primary election ballot is April 4. Candidates who wish to run as an independent have until June 7 to file a petition to get on the fall ballot.
for nominations of individuals who wish to represent the party during the Primary and General Election.
Elected officials and representatives from the federal, state, county and local level attended the meeting to give updates about their respective levels of government.
“Every month we have such a great turnout of Republicans to make sure Hillsborough continues to move in the right direction,” said club president Fred Gladstone. “The dedication of our club members always shows and translates to our yearly success during the elections.”
Assemblyman Jack Ciattarelli, Freeholder Mark Caliguire, Sheriff Frank Provenzano and Mayor DelCore all gave updates on projects. Topics discussed included the transportation trust fund, the county’s investment in parks, what to do in an active shooter situation, homeland security at the local level, the recent fire at Somerville Business Park, the township budget and road projects.
