PLAINSBORO — Bola E. Ogunoyinbo, 37, of Katy, Texas, has been charged with theft by deception for bilking a Plainsboro resident out of nearly $3,000 through an online scam, according to the Plainsboro Township Police Department.
The victim, who lives on Tamarron Drive, applied online for a job posting on www.sulekha.com, which was fraudulently posted by Mr. Ogunoyinbo. He used a fake identity on the website and put up the fake job posting, police said.
When the victim was approved for the fake job, Mr. Ogunoyinbo sent him a fraudulent check for $2,980 to be deposited into the victim’s checking account.
The next day, Mr. Ogunoyinbo told the victim that he no longer needed his services, and asked for the money — $2,980 — to be transferred back. The victim transferred the money to Mr. Ogunoyinbo’s account.
Later, the victim received notice from the bank that the check was fraudulent. The victim lost the money to Mr. Ogunoyinbo.
The victim contacted the police department, which launched an investigation and subsequently charged Mr. Ogunoyinbo with theft by deception.
