HOWELL – Robert Henig, who is the vice principal at Howell Middle School North, has been named the principal at Howell Middle School South, effective July 1.
The Howell K-8 School District Board of Education approved the promotion during a recent meeting.
Henig began his career in education as a teacher at The Rugby School, Wall Township. He also served as an assistant to the principal at The Rugby School. He came to Howell in September 1997 as a special education teacher at the Howell Middle School (before it was Howell Middle School North).
“I became a vice principal/athletic director at Howell Middle School North in September 1999 and the school’s East House vice principal in July 2003 … In July 2011, I was transferred to Memorial Middle School as vice principal, until Memorial Middle School was reconfigured as an elementary school (in September 2015) and I was transferred to Howell Middle School North as a vice principal,” Henig said.
Henig has served as the district’s affirmative action officer for the past five years and he has taught at several universities as an adjunct professor, specifically in the field of educational leadership.
Bruce Preston, assistant superintendent of curriculum and personnel, said the board was pleased to promote Henig to the position of Howell Middle School South principal.
“The district’s administrative team is confident Dr. Henig’s experience and credentials will meet the challenges of the future while continuing to celebrate the traditions of our history,” Preston said.
Henig said Howell Middle School South has a remarkable staff, involved parents and committed students who come together to make the school a unique and wonderful place to work.
“I intend to build on the tradition the school currently enjoys as a high-performing school and to build on that to move to the next level of excellence,” he said.
