Carroll Alley, 88

Carroll Alley, 88 Professor Emeritus of physics at the University of Maryland, College Park, Alley was the Principle Investigator for the Lunar Ranging Retroreflector experiment, still in use today, that was placed on the moon in 1969 by NASA’s Apollo 11 crew. A graduate of the University of Richmond with a PhD from Princeton University, Alley remained active in the study of gravitation until his death. Preceded in death by his beloved wife Elizabeth Delany Alley, he leaves behind two daughters, Frances Alley Kruger and Margaret Alley Seymour, four grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at a later date at the University of Maryland Memorial Chapel.
