Steve Antonucci, who led the Middletown High School South football team to another state title, heads the New Jersey Scholastic Coaches Association’s (NJSCA) Hall of Fame Class of 2016.
The Eagles’ head coach is one of 36 coaches in this year’s NJSCA class.
Antonucci’s Eagles were the top-ranked team in New Jersey in 2015 after going 12-0 and winning the NJSIAA North Jersey, Section II, Group IV championship. It was the 10th overall state sectional title won by the Middletown South program and the sixth for Antonucci.
Also is this year’s class are Ocean Township High School softball coach Mark D. Frankel and Colts Neck High School trainer Eric Nussbaum.
The National Federation of Coaches Association (NFCA) also announced its State Coaches of the Year. They included Middletown High School North’s Matt Clemente, ice hockey; Old Bridge High School’s Andy Hopman, boys volleyball; Christian Brothers Academy’s (CBA) Dan Keane, boys soccer; CBA’s Marty Kenny, baseball; Shore Regional High School’s Kelly Koenig, field hockey; Red Bank Catholic High School’s Jim Portela, football; Edison High School’s Tracie Smith, girls bowling; and Matawan Regional High School’s Sam Turner, girls indoor track and field.
The inductees, which include officials, will be honored April 10 with the Hall of Fame Awards Luncheon at the Pines Manor in Edison. The NJSCA is holding the event in cooperation with the NJSIAA.
