Twenty-four residents of the Witherspoon-Jackson neighborhood have joined a lawsuit suit challenging Princeton University’s property tax exemption.
“Basically, Yina Moore and Leighton Newlin contacted us to say that several people who own property in the John-Witherspoon neighborhood wished to be added to our list of plaintiffs,” said Ken Fields, one of the original plaintiffs, by email Thursday.
Ms. Moore, a former mayor of Princeton Borough, is also a graduate of the university.
Attorney Bruce I. Afran, the lawyer representing the residents, could not be reached for comment Thursday.
“We have no information from the court to confirm that a complaint was filed nor has anything been presented to us,” said university vice president and secretary Robert K. Durkee by email Thursday. “We will have something to say if we receive confirmation that something, in fact, has been filed, but not until then.”
The lawsuit is pending in New Jersey tax court.
