Hillsborough police found two residents in a burning building and led them to safety in a middle-of-the-night fire Friday, April 8, at 724 Amwell Road.
A caller at 2:49 a.m. reported heavy smoke coming from the back of a multi-family, two-story house.
Police arrived and quickly found two residents who had gotten out, but police were told there were two other people still in the building. Officers located them on the second floor and safely removed them from the home.
Three officers suffered smoke inhalation. One of the officers went to Robert Wood Johnson at Somerset for evaluation. No other injuries were reported.
The four residents were identified as Vanessa Escamilla, 24; Ricardo Moya, 23, Shaquana Gibson, 26, and Calvin Stevens, 39.
The four fire companies that cover Hillsborough, along with Montgomery Company 45, responded and put out the fire. Hillsborough rescue squad and Office of Emergency Management were on the scene, as well as the township Fire Safety Bureau.
The house deemed uninhabitable. The cause was not believed to be suspicious, police said.
