The Monmouth County Historical Association is looking for volunteers with backgrounds in library, genealogy or historical research to assist at the association’s research library at the headquarters building, 70 Court St., Freehold Borough.
“This is an opportunity not only to assist the association in preserving and cataloging the vast wealth of information and treasures we protect for the public,” said Director Evelyn C. Murphy, “but also for the volunteer to be able to contribute in a meaningful way toward making these records and artifacts more easily accessible for the public.”
Murphy said the library, which is open Wednesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., has thousands of photographs, records, newspapers and other paper memorabilia that is of particular interest to historians and collectors or researchers interested in Monmouth County history. Volunteers with knowledge and interest in history and genealogy can assist in indexing much of these materials, as well as scanning in photographs and documents for more readable accommodation to the general public, according to a press release.
Persons interested in finding out more about how they can assist the library staff at the museum can contact Karen Grieco at 732-866-1466 or by email at [email protected]
