MANALAPAN – Sandy and Ron Leiser will be the honorees at Congregation Sons of Israel’s “Follow the Sun” gala journal dinner to be held at 5 p.m. May 22 at the Ivy League Day Camp, Manalapan.
The Leisers are retired from their family business, the Ivy League Day Camp and Pre-School.
According to information provided by the temple, the Leisers moved to Manalapan in April 1973 and in 1982 they purchased the Ivy League Day Camp/Holiday Swim and Tennis Club on Gordons Corner Road.
Shortly thereafter, Ron left his teaching position in Brooklyn, N.Y., to run Ivy League full-time, with Sandy as the adviser and coordinator of the Ivy League Teen Travel program. The Leisers’ sons, Jonathan and Evan, now own the camp and pre-school.
According to a press release, the Leisers have opened their doors to Congregation Sons of Israel and to other religious institutions looking to host events. They have donated lifetime camp scholarships to children who lost parents in the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001. Ron Leiser is an active member of the Manalapan Community Emergency Response Team.
“We are thrilled to be given this wonderful honor by the Board of Trustees of Congregation Sons of Israel. We have been members of the synagogue for over 40 years. It is like a second home and family to us, sharing in all of our life cycle events. We are looking forward to the gala and would like to thank the journal committee for all their hard work,” the Leisers said.
Anyone who wishes to attend the gala or would like additional information may contact the synagogue office at 732-446-3000.
