Raritan Valley Community College’s music department will hold two events next week.
The Visual and Performing Arts Department will present a recital at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 20.
The program will feature performances by music majors and will include solo, accompanied and ensemble pieces, spanning a variety of musical styles and traditions. Original student compositions and arrangements also will be featured.
Music student performers will include Jonathan Andersen, euphonium (Hillsborough) and Jason Zujkowski, baritone saxophone (Manville).
The Student Jazz Ensemble will perform in concert at 8 p.m. Thursday, April 21.
Both events will be in the Welpe Theatre on campus at 118 Lamington Road in Branchburg.
The ensemble will perform pieces by a variety of jazz artists, including Thelonious Monk, Bud Powell, Miles Davis, John Coltrane and Sun Ra. The group also will perform music from the Great American Songbook, featuring Arthur Hamilton’s “Cry Me A River.”
The jazz ensemble includes Jonathan Andersen, Mason L. Shepherd, Jon Loree and Chris Loree, all of Hillsborough, and Jason Zujkowski and Vincent Bickar of Manville.
The group is directed by John Loehrke of New York City.
