Edward C. Gandy, 80, of Spotswood, passed away quietly at home surrounded by his loving family on April 14. Edward was born in Sandy Hook, on Dec. 23, 1935 and was a lifelong resident of Jamesburg, moving to Spotswood in 2006.
He worked as a machinist and an electrician for Okonite Cable Company in North Brunswick, for nearly 40 years.
Edward was also a life member of the Jamesburg Elks. He was a competitive athlete playing baseball and soccer in high school and continued playing softball into his 50’s. He was also an avid bowler and participated in a bocce ball league. Ed enjoyed watching his children and grandchildren play competitive sports as well, rarely missing a game. He was a diehard Mets and Redskins fan.
Edward was predeceased by his mother, Grace Smith, his father Charles Gandy, his step-father Henry Smith, his brother, Frank Gandy and granddaughter, Nicole Gandy.
Edward is survived by his wife, Peggy of 57 years, his children, Edward II, Timothy and wife Cathy, Dawn Gandy Durski and companion Joe Mele, all of Jamesburg, his sister Carolyn Tolle of Cookstown, his brother Charles and wife Serena of Monroe Twp., his eight grandchildren, Timothy Gandy, Raymond Durski, Megan Durski, Matthew Gandy, Allison Gandy, Tiffany Gandy, David Durski, Paige Gandy and great-granddaughter Jaylynn Sanchez.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, April 23, 2016, 2 p.m. at the Presbyterian Church of Jamesburg. Cremation was private. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to either the Jamesburg Elks or the Presbyterian Church of Jamesburg. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Lester Memorial Home 16 W. Church St., Jamesburg.
