MONTGOMERY — A house on Marian Drive, off Harlingen Road, was heavily damaged by a fire Saturday night that apparently started in the garage, according to the Montgomery Township Police Department.
Police were sent to the house shortly before 9 p.m. when a caller reported a garage fire. The first police officer on the scene reported that heavy smoke and fire had engulfed the garage, which was attached to the house.
The officer found one of the homeowners and confirmed that everyone had evacuated the house. The resident told the officer that he had been watching television when a neighbor banged on the door to alert him of the fire.
The fire appeared to have started in the garage and then spread to the rest of the house. A car parked in the driveway was damaged by the fire, but there were no reports of injuries — other than a Montgomery Township firefighter who was treated at the scene for high blood pressure.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
Firefighters from Montgomery Township Fire Cos. 1 and 2 responded, along with Montgomery EMS. Firefighters from Hillsborough, Rocky Hill, Princeton, Somerville, Kingston and Millstone fire departments also responded.
