NORTH BRUNSWICK — An off-duty police officer helped apprehend a suspect and locate a handgun without injuries to anyone involved.
At around 6:45 p.m. on April 22, patrol units were called upon to assist New Brunswick police officers who were in pursuit of a vehicle, according to information released by the North Brunswick Police Department.
The occupants were suspected of being in possession of a gun and were fleeing into North Brunswick’s jurisdiction.
An off-duty North Brunswick officer reportedly saw the vehicle enter a dead-end street and saw the occupants take off on foot, according to police. The officer was able to stay with and apprehend one of the occupants, and responding officers from North Brunswick and New Brunswick were able to locate and capture the second suspect within the area of Babbage Park, police said.
One handgun was recovered and no injuries to anyone were reported, according to the report.
