Dave Benjamin, Rowan University sophomore from Freehold Township, was named the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) Track Athlete of the Week after his performance at the Hopkins/Loyola Invitational April 16. In the 17-team meet that featured six NCAA Division I programs, Benjamin won the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 14.31. He also took eighth (22.46) in the 200 dash. Benjamin has the best mark in the 110 hurdles (14.31) and is tied for sixth in the 200 dash (22.46) in the NJAC. In Division III, he ranks third in the 110 hurdles.

Last spring, the former Patriot earned All-American honors in the 110 hurdles after finishing third at the NCAA Division III championships.

At Freehold Township, Benjamin competed in the 110 hurdles, 400 intermediate hurdles and the high jump. He won the Monmouth County indoor high jump championship his senior year.

The 22nd Annual Monmouth Beach PTO 5K Run will be held May 7 starting at 9 a.m. at the Monmouth Beach School.

This community event offers something for all ages, including a 5K Fun Run, the Dolphin Mile (ages 12 and under) and the kids race (7 and under). Awards and prizes will be provided by local businesses for top male/female, top male/female Monmouth Beach resident and age category awards for first place for males and females (through age 70).

Spectators can enjoy gourmet coffee from Booskerdoo, delicious bagels from Bagel Masters, French toast from Kitchen Witch and then get some tasty hot Philly Pretzel Factory pretzels or some cool treats from Surfin Sundae.

Registration on race day will begin at 8 a.m. on Griffin Street at the Monmouth Beach School. Race fees are $25 for the 5K Fun Run, $20 for the Dolphin Mile and $15 for the kids race.

The New Jersey Vietnam Veterans’ Memorial Foundation is holding its 22nd Annual Golf Tournament June 27 at Eagle Oaks Golf and Country Club, 20 Shore Oaks Drive, Farmingdale. Tee off is 10 a.m.

Participation in this event will help secure the future of the New Jersey Vietnam Veterans’ Memorial. Every day, we honor those who served, especially the 1,563 New Jerseyans who never returned home. The memorial is truly a place “To Remember, To Heal, To Honor.”

This year, the foundation is celebrating the 21st anniversary of the New Jersey Vietnam Veterans’ Memorial. Since its dedication in 1995, it has welcomed over 200,000 visitors. Each year, more than 9,000 students and faculty tour the memorial and museum, led by Vietnam veteran tour guides.

The foundation continues to host key programs and services for all veterans and award scholarships to two graduating high school seniors from New Jersey.

Participants receive a full breakfast, refreshments on the course, post-golf reception and dinner, lockerroom facilities, greens fees, carts and all gratuities. Prizes include closest to pin, long drive, lowest net foursome/team and the Edward Eget Memorial Trophy.

Sky Blue FC of the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) announced that it is partnering with Girls on the Run of Central NJ, a non-profit organization focused on creating a healthy lifestyle for girls in the third through eighth grade. As part of the relationship, Sky Blue FC will welcome Girls on the Run of Central NJ to Yurcak Field May 13, when the team hosts the Boston Breakers.

Yurcak Field is located on the campus of Rutgers University in Piscataway. Game time is 7 p.m.

Girls on the Run of Central NJ has a mission of inspiring girls to be joyful, healthy and confident while using a fun, experience-based curriculum to creatively integrate running. The Girls on the Run 5K race series offers 5K events throughout the country, with the Central New Jersey chapter hosting three 5K races each year. Its fall race held in Somerville consistently draws over 1,400 participants, while its two spring races (Fair Haven, Somerville) see more than 2,000 combined runners partake in the event.
