PORT MONMOUTH — Get hooked on fishing when the Monmouth County Park System hosts its annual Bayshore Fishing Derby from 4-7 p.m. May 21 at Bayshore Waterfront Park, Port Monmouth Road, Port Monmouth.
The derby is open to beginners as well as experienced anglers. Park System naturalists will be on hand to teach those just getting started how to rig and cast their poles. The event will also feature seining demonstrations. Participants must supply their own fishing poles, tackle and bait. Those competing must fish from the beach. Prizes will be awarded for the longest fish in three different age categories.
The cost to enter the derby is $8 per person and $4 per additional person. Preregistration is available at www.monmouthcountyparks.com or by calling 732-842-4000, ext. 1. Event day registration is cash or check only.
