Nearly four dozen Somerset County Vocational & Technical High School students captured medals against other career and technical education students at the New Jersey SkillsUSA Championships on April 16.
Out of the 94 SCVTHS students who competed, 45 received medals, including 19 gold. Gold medal winners are eligible to go to Louisville, Ky., from June 20-25, at the SkillsUSA National Leadership and Skills Conference. More than 6,000 career and technical education students will showcase their talents and compete in 100 different trade, technical and leadership fields.
Gold medals were won by SCVTHS students in these categories:
– Career Pathways Showcase: Education & Training — Novena Petryk-Cordi (Manville), Sandra Raju (Hillsborough) and Gillian Gottlieb (Hillsborough);
– Career Pathways Showcase: Human Services — Ann Marie Masiello (Hillsborough), Madison Hill-Glover (Bridgewater) and Cristina Young (Martinsville);
– Career Pathways Showcase: Natural Resources/Agriculture/Food — Robert Bender (Hillsborough), Alok Pillai (Hillsborough) and Satyakrishna Polavarapu (Bridgewater)
– First Aid/CPR — Samantha Shephard (Hillsborough) and
– Medical Math – Janum Shah (Belle Mead).
Silver medals went to:
— Auto Maintenance — Trevor Jones (Belle Mead) and
— Health Knowledge Bowl — Julia Garaffa (Skillman), Aaron Lee (Raritan), Michael Pena (Somerset) and Palak Shah (Hillsborough)
A bronze medal was won by the Quiz Bowl team of Sarah Furman (Flemington), Ruchi Patel (Hillsborough), Evan Sapriman (Hillsborough), Darshan Shah (Hillsborough), Emily Siniscalco (Flemington), Mukta Patwari (Bridgewater) and Christopher Warren (North Plainfield)
