Lead Dog Builders, a custom homebuilder and construction management company, has restored a Red Bank home built in 1874. The builder incorporated the single-family home’s early American architecture while transforming it into office space for the company.
“A home this historic is rare, and we wanted to stay true to its roots as we renovated,” said Michael Villane, founder and president of Lead Dog Builders. “We incorporated the building’s original architecture and equipped it to feature modern office space and amenities.”
The project, which is located at 219 East Bergen Place in Red Bank, will offer five offices, a conference room and a reception area. Villane and his team have completely painted and refinished the interior, which features original pine floors and trim molding, and renovated its exterior to exhibit early American aesthetic.
“This project was full of surprises. After taking off three layers of siding, we discovered the home’s original clapboard, and when working in the attic, we found a large window that floods the space with light,” said Villane. “We’re excited to incorporate these historic elements into the building’s new design.”
Lead Dog Builders has been building and renovating homes in northern Monmouth County since its inception in 2009. Villane began the company at his dining room table during the economic recession; it has since moved into its own office and has just transitioned into the renovated Red Bank building.
“I started the company in 2009 after the collapse of the housing industry,” said Villane. “The economic climate was grim at the time, and I think our success speaks to our dedication to seeing worthy projects through and the quality and integrity of our work.”
With more than 25 years of experience, Lead Dog Builders offers a full suite of custom homebuilding and construction management services including demolition and site preparation, general contracting, detailed project oversight, scheduling, budget assessment and management, quality control and product options and selection.
“We maintain an open book policy and use fixed percentage fees to accelerate construction and ensure our clients are getting the best price,” said Villane. “We work with our homeowners from pre-construction and design to completion and protect their interests at all times.”
