Metuchen Public Library announces the screening of the award-winning film “I’ll Knock a Homer for You: The Timeless Story of Johnny Sylvester and Babe Ruth” by filmmaker Andrew Lilly on May 16.
During the World Series of 1926, one of the most enduring baseball legends occurred that has been shrouded in mystique for almost a century when Babe Ruth promised to hit a home run for an ailing boy named Johnny Sylvester.
On May 16 at 7 p.m., come to the Metuchen Public Library to see the winner of the 2013 Garden State Film Festival Best Home-Grown Documentary Award and meet the film’s director and producer, Andrew Lilly. Lilly, the great-nephew of Johnny Sylvester, has captured rare interviews with people familiar with the event, including Johnny himself, and was invited to screen his film at the 2013 Baseball Film Festival at the National Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, New York. Here’s a chance to meet Andrew and learn more about this legendary story.
