Just after midnight into Sunday, May 8, a silver pickup truck crashed into the main entry gate of the Mercer County Correctional Center on Route 29 and then fled the scene, according to Hopewell Township police.
Responding officers found the vehicle in a parking lot not far away, they said. Speaking with the driver, Keith P. Nowacki, 24, of Dover Lane, East Windsor, Officer Joseph McNeil said he smelled the odor of alcohol.
Mr. Nowacki was placed under arrest and taken to headquarters, from where he was processed and released to a family member after being charged with DWI, reckless driving, leaving the scene of an accident, failure to report an accident and improper use of the left lane. His case will be heard in municipal court.
