Longtime pilot and flight instructor Tom Halvorson of Hillsborough sponsored a “compassion flight” for an ill 44-year-old mother from Reynoldsburg, Ohio, through Patient Air Lift Services, or PALS.
Patient Air Lift Services (PALS) arranges free air transportation with volunteer pilots for medical care, special needs and other compelling human needs. The service helps people who cannot reach needed care because of the cost, or inability to drive long distances.
Erika Gore, a mother of two, was flown by Mr. Halvorson from Philadelphia to Pittsburgh for a connecting flight to her home in Ohio. Erika had just completed one of many chemotherapy sessions at the Cancer Treatment Centers of America in Philadelphia. Erika has already required 13 visits to the center, with more to come.
Mr. Halvorson is a member of the Blue Sky Flying Club (Blueskyaa.com), which has its home base at Solberg Airport in Readington.
Mr. Halvorson has become a recent PALS volunteer and has been a pilot since 1968 and an instrument flight instructor for more than 15 years.
