The 10-branch Somerset County Library System has more than 1,500 Star Wars-themed books and graphic novels that have been checked out almost 47,000 times.
The system also has more than 40 copies of Star Wars video games that have been checked out almost 2,400 times. More than 30 copies of various Star Wars CDs that have been lent out almost 1,500 times, and just fewer than 200 copies of Star Wars movies — on DVD and BluRay — have been borrowed almost 7,500 times.
The library system now has 50 copies of the latest Star Wars film, “Episode VII: The Force Awakens,” ready for checkout.”
During June and July, children can visit any county library branch to answer Star Wars trivia. If they answer all the questions right, they’ll receive a prize.
Also in June and July, nine library branches will host “The Force Awakens” programs.
Among them, the Hillsborough library at 379 S. Branch Road will show the movie Monday, July 18, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and 5 to 7:30 p.m. In the daytime hours, patrons can enjoy a Star Wars drop-in craft for all ages, while supplies last. No registration is required.
From 5-7:30 p.m., there’ll be a Star Wars party for teens entering grades 6-12. There will be pizza and crafts while watching “The Force Awakens” on the big screen. Registration is required.
The Manville library at 100 S. 10th Ave., will show the movie from 2-4:30 p.m. Friday, July 22. All ages are welcome. Registration is required.
Teens and adults are invited for a “The Force Awakens viewing at the Somerville library at 35 W. End Ave. on Thursday, June 9, from 5:30-7:30 p.m. No registration is required.
The Bridgewater library located at 1 Vogt Drive invites ’tweens and teens grades 7-12 to view “The Force Awakens” and enjoy an ice cream sundae from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Monday, July 25. Registration is required.
Grades 6-12 are invited to view the movie, complete with pizza at the Mary Jacobs Memorial Library at 64 Washington St. on Tuesday, June 28, from 1:30-4 p.m. Registration is required.
“The Force Awakens” is rated PG-13.
