According to organizers of the competition, Phillippa Humphreys was pronounced dead at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, Hamilton Township, on May 14.
“All of us connected with the Jersey Fresh International are deeply saddened by today’s tragic news and we extend our condolences to Philippa’s husband, Peter, and to her entire family,” event chairman Dan Wunderlich said.
Humphreys, of Rockford, Mich., was a native of Chester, England.
The Jersey Fresh Invitational Three-Day Event was a qualifying event for the U.S. Olympic Eventing Team, as well as determining participants for the U.S. and Canadian World Equestrian Games and Pan Am Games teams.
