North Brunswick celebrates National Police Week

National Police Week was enacted Oct. 1, 1962, by the United States Congress. This resolution authorized then-President John F. Kennedy to proclaim the calendar week of May 15 each year as Police Week.

At 4 p.m. on May 19, the North Brunswick Police Department will celebrate Police Week with a ceremony at police headquarters, 710 Hermann Road. Police officers will be honored with departmental awards for their actions.

For the past 25 years, people across the country gather during this week to honor those who serve their communities through law enforcement and pay special recognition to those who have lost their lives in the line of duty for the safety and protection of others.

The Police Unity Tour rode through North Brunswick on May 10 on its way to the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial in Washington, D.C.
