Flea market open at Route 206 firehouse
Sat., May 21 — Sell or browse the merchandise at a flea market held twice a month at the Hillsborough Fire Co. No. 2 firehouse at 375 Route 206.
The flea markets are held from 9 a.m. and go as long as there are customers. Markets are located on the grass adjacent to the firehouse. Arrive as early as you like.
Parking will be on the grass and behind the firehouse. There will be no parking next to the firehouse or in the driveway.
Future markets are June 4 and 18, July 9 and 23, Aug. 6 and 27, Sept, 10 and 24, and Oct. 8 and 22.
Market outside spaces are available for $15 each on morning of event. No tables or chairs provided.

VFW will celebrate 85th with a dinner-dance
Sat., May 21 — Veterans of Foreign War Post 2290 will hold its 85th anniversary dinner-dance at the post at 600 Washington Ave. from 6 to 11 p.m. Tickets are $35 per person or $65 a couple before May 20 or $40 or $75, respectively, at door. Veterans’ breakfast precedes holiday parade
Sat., May 28 — Hillsborough veterans, spouses and widows are invited as guests at the annual Salute to Veterans breakfast preceding the township parade at the Municipal Complex on South Branch Road.
Registration before May 23 is required to attend the breakfast. People are asked to register online through the recreation department website or by calling the department at 908-369-4832. Registration forms are also available at the administration office.
Check in for the pre-parade breakfast is at 7:30 a.m. Following the breakfast, guests and visitors can board buses for transport to the start of the parade route. The parade steps off at 10:30 a.m. Veterans will lead the parade. The Garden of Honor Ceremony will take place at the conclusion of the parade.
Manville library hosts ‘Meltdown’ series concert
Sat., May 28 — Manville Meltdown concert series presents Tweed and the Sugardaddies from 5:30-7 p.m. at the Manville library, 100 South 10th Avenue. It’s outside, if the weather’s nice, and inside it it’s not. This band provides original material, but also cover a diverse set of artists. Major influences include Gene Vincent, Buddy Holly, Elvis, Hank Williams, Johnny Cash and Bob Dylan. Call 908-722-9722 for information or to save a seat.
Business group to host networking night
Wed., June 1 — The Hillsborough Economic & Business Development Commission will host an evening networking event in the Farmhouse Banquet Room of “The Landing“ on Amwell Road from 6 to 8 p.m.
The cost is $10. There will be food and soft drinks provided and a cash bar will be available.

Auten Road School to host Circus Dance Festival
Sat., June 4 — The Dance Connection of Hillsborough will present its second annual Circus Dance Festival from 11 a.m. – 4 p.m. on the fields at Auten Road Intermediate School.
Organizers says the festival “is like a theme park, a live video game, and a street performance all rolled into one.” Attendees can walk on stilts, be part of a flash mob, solve a riddle, and meet and interact with characters. RSVP asked.
Meet the horses who help to overcome trauma
Sun., June 5 — Meet the “Healing Herd“ of horses at a family friendly event sponsored by Spring Reins of Life from 1 to 6 p.m. at Foxx Creek Farm, 281 Longhill Road, Hillsborough. Food, music, games, prizes and four live demos thatillustrate equine-assisted psychotherapy.
There will be separate programs for combat veterans, at-risk teens and grieving children suffering from moderate to severe trauma. No riding, no horse experience to benefit.
St. Mary’s Catholic Church hosts monthly Slavic meal
Wed., June 8 — St. Mary Byzantine Catholic Church holds its monthly dinner, 4 to 7 p.m., in the St. Mary Parish Center, 1900 Brooks Blvd. $14 for adults (ages 9 and up) and $5 for children (8 and younger). All-you-can-eat pirohi, stuffed cabbage, kielbasa and sauerkraut, mashed potatoes.

Fig tree farm manager to present to garden club
Thurs., June 16 — Bill Muzychko, founder and owner of Bill’s Figs at 329 Old York Road, Flemington, will talk to the Neshanic Garden Club at its monthly meeting at 9:45 a.m. at the Station House on Olive Street, Neshanic Station.
Mr. Muzychko manages every stage in the life of a fig tree, including the planting, growing, picking, pruning and winterization of every tree he grows. Fig trees are warm-weather plants that need special care in cooler climates. He has not only developed a system that eliminates the need to “bury“ fig trees during the winter months but also dramatically increases crop output.
This is also the club’s annual meeting, which will include the installation of 2016-17 officers. Luncheon will be catered by La Strada Café. Cost per person is $20.
