Lupus, chronic-disease sessions set at library

As part of its ongoing health-related programming, the Old Bridge Public Library will sponsor two upcoming events at the library main branch, Route 516 and Cottrell Road.

A free six-week workshop series titled “Chronic Disease Self-Management” is scheduled for 1-3:30 p.m. Tuesdays, June 7-July 19 (no session July 5). Those suffering from or caring for someone with chronic conditions such as arthritis, heart disease, osteoporosis or diabetes are invited to attend. The sessions, which will allow participants to learn how to manage symptoms, communicate effectively with doctors and make daily tasks easier, also will provide tips on healthy diet and exercise. The course is offered through the Middlesex County Office of Health Services. Registration is required by calling the library at 732-721-5600, ext. 5033, or logging on to www.oldbridgelibrary.org. Participants, who must attend all six classes, will receive a certificate of completion at the end of the program.

An “All About Lupus” seminar is planned for 1 p.m. June 8. Guest presenter will be Dr. Nandini Moorthy, chief of rheumatology at Bristol-Myers Squibb Children’s Hospital at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, New Brunswick. The informational session will address the symptoms and treatments of the autoimmune disease and provide tips for managing it successfully. Participants are encouraged to bring a brown-bag lunch.
