Middlesex County Vocational and Technical Schools (MCVTS) theater students will present “The STEAM Plays Project,” a collection of plays inspired by science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics, June 2-4 and 9-11 at 7 p.m. in the auditorium of the MCVTS East Brunswick campus, 112 Rues Lane.
The project is a collection of performances developed and created by MCVTS students in collaboration with McCarter Theatre Center, Princeton, and the theater program of the New Jersey Institute of Technology, Newark. The students spent the school year exploring their sense of identity and creating pieces inspired by and developed with STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) tools and ideas. Four original pieces will have their premieres. The show will run approximately two hours with intermission.
Performances will feature four projectors, a live camera feed, “Kinect” gaming technology (which allows users to interact intuitively and without any intermediary device, such as a controller), robotics, movable lights and wearable tech, all developed by students under the guidance of several resident artists.
Advance tickets cost $15 for adults, $5 for students, and may be purchased by emailing [email protected]. Tickets at the door will be priced at $17 for adults, $7 for students. Teachers and administrators in kindergarten-grade 12 schools will be admitted free of charge. Free parking will be available.
