The second floor of the Princeton Public Library will close starting Monday to allow for books, furniture and offices to be moved ahead of the much anticipated “2Reimagine” renovation beginning in July.
The library intends to redesign the second floor, a project expected to take six to eight months to complete. Plans call for a 60-seat study area, rooms for groups to work in and other features to make a modern study and work space.
During the time the second floor is closed, patrons still will be able to take the stairs or the elevator to and from the third floor.
When work begins, the library expects there will be times when the building will have to close for part of the day, said library director Brett Bonfield on Tuesday. It is still unknown if there will be times when the library will be closed the entire day.
Once the project gets going, work will start early in the morning, before the library opens at 9, and on weekends, he said.
To stay informed about the project, library users are urged to sign up for weekly email updates by going onto the library website, www.princetonlibrary.org. Information also can be found there and on social media whenever the library needs to have a full or partial closure, he said.
In April, the library board of trustees awarded a $2.1 million contract to Metuchen-based Tri-Form Construction Inc. for the renovation.
