Chair-exercise session coming to library

A program titled “The Benefits of Chair Exercises” is set for 11 a.m.-noon June 17 at the Sayreville Public Library, Washington Road.

Chair exercises are designed to assist aging individuals to exercise and move without putting undo pressure or strain on their bodies. Movement works to lubricate joints and keep them flexible, keep muscles strengthened and stabilized and to increase blood circulation. The desired outcomes are a decreased number of falls and an increased ability to better accomplish day-to-day physical activities.

Participants will perform range-of-motion movements, stretching and light strength training. There will be a 5-minute breathing exercise at the end of the class.

Guest presenter will be Denise Morgan, certified yoga instructor and certified personal trainer. Individuals who arrive later than 11:05 a.m. will not be admitted. The program is open to adults only.
