The U.S. Department of Agriculture Forest Service and the National Garden Clubs Inc., offer students in grades one through five the opportunity to demonstrate through their own drawings of either Smokey Bear or Woodsy Owl, their understanding of wildfire prevention and basic environmental conservation principles.
The N.J. Garden Club has announced that three of the Terra Nova Garden Club-sponsored posters have been recognized as first-place winners in the State of New Jersey. The student winners are Gabriella Politi, grade three; Sean Lacko, grade 4; and Mariana DeLahoz, grade four, all from St. Helena’s school in Edison. The posters will be entered into the regional contest representing New Jersey, and if successful will compete for the award at the national level for their grade level.
