Blood drive to be hosted at YMCA this afternoon

Touch-a-truck event will benefit Manville library
Sat., June 11 — The Friends of the Manville Library and the Manville Recreation Department will give youngsters and adults a chance to “touch a truck” from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Manville High School field, 1100 Brooks Blvd. There will be all kinds of vehicle and the chance to meet and greet police officers, fire fighters, medical technicians, sanitation workers and more. The fee of $2 per person or $5 per family funds the Friends group, which supports the local library.

Financial ‘coach’ to hold ‘Mindful Money’ workshop

Fig tree farm manager to present to garden club
Thurs., June 16 — Bill Muzychko, founder and owner of Bill’s Figs at 329 Old York Road, Flemington, will talk to the Neshanic Garden Club at its monthly meeting at 9:45 a.m. at the Station House on Olive Street, Neshanic Station.
Mr. Muzychko manages every stage in the life of a fig tree, including the planting, growing, picking, pruning and winterization of every tree he grows. Fig trees are warm-weather plants that need special care in cooler climates. He has not only developed a system that eliminates the need to “bury“ fig trees during the winter months but also dramatically increases crop output.
This is also the club’s annual meeting, which will include the installation of 2016-17 officers. Luncheon will be catered by La Strada Café at $20 per person.

High school’s graduation moves indoors in afternoon
Thurs. June 16 — Hillsborough High School’s graduation of the Class of 2016 will be held at the Sun Bank Arena, 81 Hamilton Ave., Trenton, starting at 3 p.m. Students must there at 1:30 p.m. Parents can enter the arena at 2 p.m. General admission is free; no tickets needed. Project Graduation rendezvous is at 8:30 p.m. at the high school.
Route 206 firehouse hosts season flea markets
Sat., June 18 — Sell or browse the merchandise at a flea market held twice a month at the Hillsborough Fire Co. No. 2 firehouse at 375 Route 206.
The flea markets are held from 9 a.m. and go as long as there are customers. Markets are located on the grass adjacent to the firehouse. Arrive as early as you like.
Parking will be on the grass and behind the firehouse. There will be no parking next to the firehouse or in the driveway.
Future markets are July 9 and 23, Aug. 6 and 27, Sept, 10 and 24, and Oct. 8 and 22.
Market outside spaces are available for $15 each on morning of event. No tables or chairs provided.

Township plans celebration with games, food, fireworks
Sat., June 25 — Township’s Independence Day celebration will be held at Auten Road Intermediate School, starting at 5 p.m. There will be inflatable attractions, boardwalk games, DJ, food tent and fireworks at about 9 p.m.
Parking at ARIS will be limited to permit holders only. Free shuttle service will be available from Hillsborough High School, beginning at 5 p.m. through the conclusion of the event.
Program addresses topic of ‘New Age of Job Searching’
Wed., July 6 — Harold Levin, staffing manager at SmartStaff Personnel, will lead a free program on “The New Age of Job Searching” for a support group for those who are unemployed, underemployed or seeking a career change. The program will be 7 to 9 p.m. at Jewish Family Service of Somerset, Hunterdon and Warren Counties, 150-A West High St., Somerville.

St. Mary’s Catholic Church hosts monthly Slavic meal
Wed., July 13 — St. Mary Byzantine Catholic Church holds its monthly dinner, 4 to 7 p.m., in the St. Mary Parish Center, 1900 Brooks Blvd. $14 for adults (ages 9 and up) and $5 for children (8 and younger). All-you-can-eat pirohi, stuffed cabbage, kielbasa and sauerkraut, mashed potatoes.

GOP election committee hosts golf fundraiser
Fri., July 15 — The Hillsborough Republican Election Committee will hold a modified scramble golf outing at Royce Brook Golf Club, on Hamilton Road. Registration and lunch begins at 11:30 a.m., with shotgun start at 1 p.m. Dinner at 6 p.m. and a Hawaiian shirt “beach bash” featuring the Tyrone Stackhouse Project band begins at 7.

Community theater — Somerset Valley Players will present “Boeing Boeing,” a high-flying comedic farce of the swinging ’60s, on weekends until June 19 at their theater on Amwell Road.

Cleanup tickets available — Coupons for access to drop off items at the Auten Road DPW facility and Senior Citizen stickers for curbside pickup are available at the Hillsborough Township Department of Public Works office, 21 East Mountain Road, from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday The coupons are distributed on a first come, first serve basis.
This program is for Hillsborough residents only; proof of residency is required. The drop-off site across from the Auten Road Intermediate School is open rain or shine on the specified dates.
Coping with addiction — Parents of Addicted Children helps parents understand and cope with drug problems they are facing, and will face, with their children. Meets first and third Monday of month, 6:30-7:30 p.m., at Neshanic Reformed Church, 715 Amwell Road.
