Library will kick off summer-reading program

The Old Bridge Public Library will begin its summer-reading series, “On Your Mark, Get Set — READ,” with crafts and programs for all ages 11 a.m.-2 p.m. June 18 at the library main branch, Route 516 and Cottrell Road.

Rock ’N’ Roll Mother Goose will perform at 11 a.m. The interactive program will allow children to sing as they re-enact a favorite story. Free ice cream will go to all participants. After the program, Kroozin Productions will display some classic cars from the 1950s and ’60s outside the library.

The summer-reading program is divided into activities for elementary school students and middle school and high school students. Youngsters in grades kindergarten-5 can earn prizes for every five books they read, program they attend or online puzzle they complete. Older students will earn snacks for each book, movie, television show or game review they complete. Each review earns an entry into that week’s raffle; prizes will include gift cards, movie tickets and free food coupons. There also will be age-appropriate incentives for preschoolers.

The theme of the library’s adult summer-reading program is “Exercise Your Mind.” To participate, patrons are asked to submit reviews for entry into weekly prize drawings. At the end of the summer, three Fitbit fitness trackers will be raffled off to participants. The series will run through Aug. 27.
