The Metuchen Public Library announces that it will be paying tribute to John Ciardi on the anniversary of his 100th birthday, on June 24 from 7-8:30 p.m. John Ciardi, a long-time resident of Metuchen, was an American poet, translator and etymologist. Most famous for his poetry, he also translated Dante’s Divine Comedy and was a contributor to and editor of the Saturday Review. He even hosted a public affairs television program on CBS called Accent during the 1960s.
The library invites everyone to come learn more about him, hear some of his poetry, and enjoy getting to know this local legend. For those of you who may have known him personally, the library welcomes you to come and share your stories and recollections at this special event.
This program is sponsored by the Friends of the Metuchen Library. Refreshments will be served. No registration is required, but if you have any questions, call the library at 732-632-8526.
