Library slates July programs for children

The Middletown Township Public Library has scheduled July programs for children at 55 New Monmouth Road. Registration is required for some programs.

  • “On Your Mark, Get Set, Read!” is the library’s summer reading program, which began June 1. Participants can log their reading minutes beginning June 27 and can continue through Aug. 26. Registration is required.
  • “1,000 Books Before Kindergarten” is a nationwide challenge that encourages parents and caregivers to regularly read aloud to their children. By reading just one book a night, families can reach the 1,000-book goal in three years and provide their children essential early literacy skills.
  • “Child ID Program: Helping to Protect What’s Most Important” will take place at 10 a.m. July 7. Obtain a free identification card that includes a child’s fingerprints and photo. Children’s activities will be available. Registration is required.
  • “Live Animal Presentation” will take place at 11 a.m. July 7. Monmouth County Park System naturalists will bring an array of live reptiles, amphibians and insects to show. They will discuss the life cycles and habitats of each with an emphasis on the role they play in nature.
  • “Master Gardeners” workshop for children will be held at 11 a.m. July 21. Registration is required.
  • “Hop into Health with Hopscotch” will begin 10 a.m. July 27. Watch a live show starring Hopscotch the Rabbit and see ways to be active while having fun. Parents and caregivers may bring a camera for the post-show meet-and-greet with Hopscotch.
  • “Bi-Okoto Theater and School of African Cultures: Movement and Music Class” will be at 6:30 p.m. July 27. Bi-Okoto drum and dance theater members will take the audience on an interactive journey to West Africa’s Nigeria and Ghana. Enjoy a broad range of dance dialects and styles with joy, high spirits and excitement. Registration is limited to 50 attendees as space is limited.
  • “Get Fit with Crossfit Salus!” will be held at 2 p.m. July 28. Join Coach Angela and Coach Gino from CrossFit Salus of Middletown for a partner workout. Bring a friend or join a partner upon arrival. Learn a few new exercises, play some silly games and have fun in this 45-minute class. Bring a sweat towel, sneakers and water.
