A 95-year-old woman had to be extricated from a pickup truck following an auto crash just after noon Thursday.
At 12:04 p.m. Hopewell Township police were dispatched to a motor vehicle crash on Route 579 at the intersection of Pleasant Valley Road. Officers arrived on scene and found that a Hyundai Santa Fe and a Ford F350 had collided.
The pickup truck was driven by Kenneth J. Baker, 65, from Main Street in Pennington. Also in his vehicle was his 95-year-old mother, Eleanor Baker from Route 518, Lambertville.
The Hyundai was driven by a 17-year-old Derek Deana-Roga 2nd, from Kentsdale Drive, Pennington. He was not injured.
Mrs. Baker was trapped in the vehicle for about 30 minutes before being extricated by members of the Hopewell Valley Emergency Services, West Trenton Fire Company and Pennington Fire Company.
Both she and her son were transported to the hospital by Hopewell Valley Emergency Services, the Pennington First Aid Squad and paramedics from Capital Health. They were treated and released the same day for lacerations, bumps and bruises.
Police said investigation showed that Mr. Baker was traveling south on Route 579. As he passed through the intersection of Pleasant Valley Road, the teen, who was driving east on Pleasant Valley Road, failed to stop at the stop sign and struck Mr. Baker’s truck. The impact caused Mr. Baker’s truck to turn on its side.
The 17-year-old was cited for failing to stop at a traffic signal and careless driving.
Route 579 was closed for about 90 minutes during the incident.
The crash was investigated by Officer Mark Panzano. Union Fire Company and Rescue Squad also responded.
