A “Handwriting Without Tears” program will be held 1-3 p.m. June 27-30, July 25-28, Aug. 22-25 and Aug. 29-Sept. 1 at Special Strides Therapeutic Riding Center, 118 Federal Road, Monroe.
Special Strides is a nonprofit organization devoted to improving the lives of individuals with special needs. Using a combination of horses, therapy and a natural setting, the aim is to achieve recreational, educational and therapeutic goals.
The handwriting sessions, which are open to children ages 5-8 who are independent (do not require a shadow/assistant) and know how to write their name, is designed to improve the child’s handwriting while he or she is engaged in the natural setting of a farm. Occupational therapists will engage the child in outdoor farm adventures that incorporate sensory-motor, gross-motor and fine-motor activities to strengthen the child’s readiness for school.
Cost is $180 for four days, 2 hours a day. For more information, call 732-446-0945.
