Township plans celebration with games, food, fireworks 
Sat., June 25 — The township’s Independence Day celebration will be held at Auten Road Intermediate School, starting at 5 p.m. There will be inflatable amusements until 8 p.m., pay-to-play boardwalk games, free dunk tank, DJ, food tent. Melzo the Clown will paint faces. Fireworks begin at about 9 p.m.
Parking at ARIS will be limited to permit holders only. Free shuttle service will be available from Hillsborough High School, beginning at 5 p.m.
The food tent will sell pizza, chicken, hamburgers, hot dogs and kettle corn.
The rain date is Sunday, June 26.
Meltdown Concert Series will feature The Kootz 
Sat., June 25 — “The Kootz” is a group of Jersey-guys and their ‘musical friends’ who just can’t seem to ’retire their guitars’ and likely never will. They have a collective passion for classic covers of classic rock, pop and blues-tunes from the late 1950s through the ’70s. 4-5:30 p.m. at Manville library, 100 South 10th Ave. 
Kids invited, coaches needed to help at flag football camp 
June 28 and 30 — The Junior Raiders invites kids to its summer flag football camp from 6:30 to 7:45 p.m. on Tuesday and Thursday at the Triangle Road Complex.
Registration is not required to participate. Kids can get a head start on the season, meet new friends and play and learn with old ones. At stations and in games, youngsters will be introduced to new skills and enjoy ones already learned. Adults willing to help run this camp are asked to contact Chris Porter at [email protected]. Full commitment is not necessary and the group will appreciate any effort. 
Program addresses topic of ‘New Age of Job Searching’ 
Wed., July 6 — Harold Levin, staffing manager at SmartStaff Personnel, will lead a free program on “The New Age of Job Searching” for a support group for those who are unemployed, underemployed or seeking a career change. The program will be 7 to 9 p.m. at Jewish Family Service of Somerset, Hunterdon and Warren Counties, 150-A West High St., Somerville.

Route 206 firehouse hosts flea markets 
Sat., July 9 — Sell or browse the merchandise at a flea market held twice a month at the Hillsborough Fire Co. No. 2 firehouse at 375 Route 206.
The flea markets are held from 9 a.m. and go as long as there are customers. Markets are located on the grass adjacent to the firehouse. Arrive as early as you like.
Parking will be on the grass and behind the firehouse. There will be no parking next to the firehouse.
Future markets are July 23, Aug. 6 and 27, Sept, 10 and 24, and Oct. 8 and 22.
Market outside spaces are available for $15 each on morning of event. No tables or chairs provided.

St. Mary’s Catholic Church hosts monthly Slavic meal 
Wed., July 13 — St. Mary Byzantine Catholic Church holds its monthly dinner, 4 to 7 p.m., in the St. Mary Parish Center, 1900 Brooks Blvd. $14 for adults (ages 9 and up) and $5 for children (8 and younger). All-you-can-eat pirohi, stuffed cabbage, kielbasa and sauerkraut, mashed potatoes.
Dinners are held on the second Wednesday of every month. Each month a special dish will be prepared by St. Mary’s chef John Pagano. Orders to go available. For information, call 908-725-0615.
GOP election committee hosts golf fundraiser 
Fri., July 15 — The Hillsborough Republican Election Committee will hold a modified scramble golf outing at Royce Brook Golf Club, on Hamilton Road. Registration and lunch begins at 11:30 a.m., with shotgun start at 1 p.m. Dinner at 6 p.m. and a Hawaiian shirt “beach bash” featuring the Tyrone Stackhouse Project band begins at 7.

Township Committee cancels two summer meetings 
July 26 & Aug. 23 — The Township Committee has canceled meetings on Tuesdays, July 26 and Aug. 23, both at 7:30 p.m. The governing body will hold one meeting in each of those months, on July 12 and Aug. 9. 
Continuing events 
Community theater — Somerset Valley Players will present “Sleeping Beauty,” on weekends from July 15-31 at their theater on Amwell Road.
Shows are Fridays and Saturdays at 8 p.m. and Sundays at 2. Tickets are $12 for adults and $10 for senior citizens and students. Buy tickets through the website at www.svptheatre.org.

Farm market: Duke Farms “Farm to Table” market is open Thursdays from 3 to 8 p.m. through Nov. 17 in front of the Duke Farms Farm Barn orientation center, 1112 Duke’s Parkway West. Farmers and specialty vendors present an array of local products.
VFW meetings: Monthly meetings of Hillsborough VFW Post 8371 are held on the fourth Tuesday of the month at 7:30 p.m. in the county nutrition center, 339 South Branch Road. Coping with addiction — Parents of Addicted Children helps parents understand and cope with drug problems they are facing, and will face, with their children. Meets first and third Monday of month, 6:30-7:30 p.m., at Neshanic Reformed Church, 715 Amwell Road.
Alzheimer’s support group — The Alzheimer’s Association has a support group in Hillsborough. Family members and caregivers come together to share information and support in a safe, confidential atmosphere.
