HILLSBOROUGH/MANVILLE: Libraries to upgrade WiFi, internet services this week

Somerset County Library System will implement a multi-phase network upgrade of internet service at all of its 10 branches.
The first phase will occur at one branch at a time between June 27 and July 12 and will improve internet connectivity for patrons and staff. The second phase of the process is projected to take place in August.
“So much of what we do at the library involves our internet access: checking out items on customer accounts, providing public computers and Wi-Fi, assisting people with research, and more,” said Lynn Hoffman, director of operations. “Our network infrastructure has served us very well for a long time, but we’ve hit the limitations of our current equipment. The new network equipment will give us many more years of service, and has the capacity to handle increased bandwidth and other improvements to internet access.”
New network equipment is scheduled to be installed in Manville on Monday, June 27, and at the Hillsborough library on Thursday, June 30.
“The installation process will begin between 8:30 and 9 a.m.,” said Ms. Hoffman. “The length of time it will take to install the new equipment may vary quite a bit from one library to another, but we know that there will be a period of time when the entire network is down at each branch. Even though the wired network will be down, wi-fi connections are expected to function normally.”
