The Manalapan Touchdown Club is holding a Walk With Marcus 5K July 30 at the Manalapan Recreation Center.

The event is a fundraiser for the family of Marcus Salinas, the Braves’ standout running back from the 2015 season who is a member of he Manalapan Class of 2016. Salinas was diagnosed with Anti-NMDA Receptor Encephalitis and is currently being treated at Children’s Hospital in Philadelphia. The illness is a rare neurological disease where the bodies’ antibodies attack NMDA receptors in the brain. NMDA receptors control the memory and motor functions that are the target of the autoimmune disease. The fundraiser is to help Salinas’ family with expenses.

Registration for the 5K will start at 8 a.m., with the run/walk staring at 9:30 a.m. Fees are $25 per person and $60 for three.

The Landsharks Baseball Club 7U team is holding open tryouts July 9 and 10 starting at 9 a.m. (only need to attend one date) at the Howell Central Little League fields on Old Tavern Road. These tryouts are for 6- and 7-year-olds who do not turn 8 before May 1, 2017.  Prior organized baseball experience is a plus but not necessary.  If interested please contact [email protected].

Bobby Weise has qualified for the 99th Met Junior Golf Championship that will be held at the Patterson Club in Fairfield, Connecticut, July 12-14.

The Freehold Township High School golfer played his way to the championship at the June 20 Met Qualifier held at Twin Brooks Country Club in Watchung. Weise tied for second, carding a 2-over-par round of 73.

Weise will be a senior at Freehold Township, where he also plays basketball.

One of the nation’s largest obstacle race companies, Rugged Maniac, will bring crazy obstacles, a wild festival and thousands of revelers back to Raceway Park for the weekend of July 9-10. The Garden State’s Maniac stop will take over Raceway Park for a full weekend of obstacle racing in a 2016 season that will make 27 other stops across North America.

Rugged Maniac provides a perfect opportunity to do something fun and physical with your weekend, no matter your age, shape or size. Adrenaline seekers from across the region will tackle 25 challenging obstacles spread along a 3-mile off-road course, including underground tunnels, trampolines, warped walls, balance beams and a Maniac-favorite 50-foot water slide.

Tickets, available online at www.ruggedmaniac.com, are priced $99 until July 5. In addition to advance online registration, participants may also sign up at the event the day of the race for $110. Students and military personnel with valid identification receive a $10 discount. The daylong festival, which is free to attend for spectators, will also feature a variety of entertainment, including music, mechanical bulls, adult bounce houses, food and exhibition booths.
