Jessica Smedley, the supervisor of counseling at East Windsor Regional School District, was hired Monday as the new director of guidance in a revamped administrative structure for Hillsborough schools.
The board eliminated the position of director of guidance for the high school and created a director of guidance for grades K-12. Ms. Smedley was hired effective Aug. 31, or sooner, at a salary of $125,650.
She’ll replace Hillary Charney, Hillsborough High School’s director of guidance services, who will retire effective Aug. 1, after having worked in the district since May 2007. In May her salary was set at $144,730.13 for 2016-17.
Superintendent Jorden Schiff said Ms. Smedley will be responsible for the facilitation of professional development for guidance counselors and student assistance counselors in collaboration with district level directors and the supervisory team.
Ms. Smedley worked since 2009 as the East Windsor Regional School District supervisor of counseling. In East Windsor, she supervised 17 counselors in six district schools, was the master scheduler for Hightstown High School, oversaw the district and school crisis teams and developed a senior transition program for graduating students.
Ms. Smedley was previously a school counselor at Hightstown High School, as well as a content specialist for the guidance department. She began her public school career in 2002 as a counselor at Bridgewater-Raritan Middle School, where she worked with students in sixth through eighth grade.
