WEST WINDSOR — Three Newark men were charged with drug and weapons offenses after a police officer stopped to investigate a suspicious car that was parked on Jeffrey Lane shortly before 3 a.m. June 28, according to the West Windsor Township Police Department.
The police officer was checking the Colonial Park development when he noticed a car parked on Jeffrey Lane, with its taillights on. By the time he had turned around to check on the car, it was driving down Jeffrey Lane and then turned left onto Quaker Road, police said.
The officer stopped the car on Rumford Way at South Mill Road.
Zagar E. Melvin II, 19, who was driving the car, was charged with unlawful possession of a weapon and possession of an imitation firearm, police said. He was found to have a KJ Works Airsoft handgun in his possession. The orange safety tip had been covered by black tape.
Tyrie R. Bullock, 18, was charged with possession of crack cocaine, and Iqueal I. Murray, 22, was taken into custody on several outstanding warrants totaling $19,000 from Newark, police said. Both men were passengers in the car driven by Mr. Melvin.
Mr. Melvin and Mr. Bullock were released, but Mr. Murray was turned over to the Newark Fugitive Task Force.
