JACKSON – The James Volpe Foundation will host its annual Wiffle Ball tournament and Family Day on Aug. 6 at the Holbrook Little League Fields on Bartley Road, Jackson.
The family event honors the memory of James Volpe, who died in a motor vehicle accident in May 2011. Volpe was a senior and a member of the baseball team at Jackson Memorial High School at the time of his death.
Organizers said Family Day will have a “block party” feel and activities for people of all ages. General admission is $5 for individuals age 6 and over. The event will include children’s rides, face painting, live music, raffles, gift basket auctions, silent auctions and other entertainment.
“All you can eat” sausage and peppers, hamburgers, pulled pork, hot dogs, salads and soft drinks are included in the price of admission. A beer garden will be available during the day.
Organizers said proceeds will be used to provide financial support to grieving families and assistance to Little League organizations and high school sports organizations.
The nonprofit foundation has also used funds that are raised through the annual Wiffle Ball tournament, Family Day and golf outing to provide scholarships to high school seniors, supply holiday gifts and food to less fortunate families and support a Students Against Destructive Decisions chapter at Jackson Memorial High School.
Registration to participate in the Wiffle Ball Tournament is $20 per person, which includes a T-shirt, Family Day admission for team members and prizes. For more information, visit www.jamesvolpefoundation.org
