Edgar W. Butterline died July 7 at St. Peter’s University Hospital in New Brunswick. He was 83.
Born and raised in South River, he lived in North Brunswick since 1967. A U.S. Navy veteran from the Korean War, Edgar graduated from Michigan State University and worked for AT&T from 1958 to 1996, retiring as a network engineer.
Edgar was employed subsequently as a technical consultant at Symmetricom until finally retiring in 2001. Dedicated to his profession, Edgar worked with various communication standards groups at the U.S. Department of Commerce. A member of the Telephone Pioneers, he was a deacon and elder at the First Presbyterian Church of New Brunswick.
Surviving are his wife of 63 years, Joan (DeHart); sons: Mark of Maynard, Massachusetts, and Brett of Piscataway; grandchildren: Ryan, Hannah, William and Jake, and three nephews.
Funeral services were arranged by Selover Funeral Home, 555 Georges Road, North Brunswick. Memorial donations may be made to the Salvation Army.
