PLAINSBORO — Five people, including three children, were injured when a school bus did not stop for a red traffic signal and struck a car in the intersection of Plainsboro Road and George Davison Road Tuesday afternoon, according to the Plainsboro Township Police Department.
The driver of the Toyota sedan had to be cut out of the car by the Plainsboro Fire Department. Emergency medical technicians from the Plainsboro EMS unit and the Robert Wood Johnson University Medical Center also responded, police said.
The school bus, which was driven by 64-year-old Victor Rong and was carrying three children, was traveling east on Plainsboro Road when the accident occurred shortly after 2 p.m., police said.
The school bus did not stop for a red traffic signal and struck the driver’s side of a Toyota sedan that was attempting to make a left turn from George Davison Road onto Plainsboro Road westbound, police said. The impact pushed the car off the road and over a curb, where it landed on the grass, police said.
The three children on the school bus complained of pain and were taken to the University Medical Center of Princeton at Plainsboro, police said.
The front-seat passenger of the sedan was also taken to the University Medical Center of Princeton at Plainsboro for a facial cut, while the driver of the sedan was taken to Robert Wood Johnson Medical Center of New Brunswick as a precaution because of back and head bruising.
Mr. Rong, the school bus driver, was charged with careless driving and failure to observe a traffic signal, police said.
