JACKSON – Farley’s Ice Cream and Jackson PBA Local 168, in partnership with the Jackson Police Department, have announced the 2016 safety citation program.
Sgt. Christopher Parise, who is the police department’s public information officer, said that for the remainder of the year, Jackson police officers will be looking to reward children for their use of safety equipment.
Once a child has been spotted using a piece of safety equipment (i.e., a bicycle helmet), the officer will issue a “safety citation” to the child, Parise said.
The citation will be redeemable for a free small ice cream cone at Farley’s Homemade Ice Cream in the Anilop Plaza, 740 Brewers Bridge Road.
Safety citations which are redeemed prior to Dec. 10 will be placed in a drawing for a grand prize. The grand prize, which will be awarded to one boy and one girl, is for a new bicycle, valued at a maximum of $200 each. The bicycles, which were purchased by the Jackson PBA, will be distributed in mid-December.
“The Jackson PBA is always looking to work with local businesses, especially with things that affect our community,” Parise said. “This safety citation program is an excellent example. It allows police officers to have a positive interaction (with the community), it raises awareness about the importance of safety and it supports a great local business. For many children who receive a safety citation, this will be their first time speaking with an officer and it is important for them to feel comfortable.”
