One driver was charged with drug possession and motor vehicle charges following a motor vehicle crash on Route 31 near Mine Road in Hopewell Township on July 16 at 2:37 p.m.
Police said a 2007 Saturn being driven northbound by Tammy R. Lynchschuyler of Route 31, Hopewell, crossed over the center line and drove head on into a Toyota being driven by Candace C. Hanson of Stockton. Both drivers were treated for multiple injuries. Both vehicles were heavily damaged and towed.
Prior to police arriving, a witness allegedly saw Ms. Lynchschuyler throw an item into a nearby drain basin, police said. Officers recovered the item and found a small metal container containing crack cocaine. Based on Officer Kevin Koveloski’s investigation, he charged Ms. Lynchschuyler with aggravated assault, possession of cocaine, DWI, reckless driving, driving while suspended, failure to keep right and having a controlled dangerous substance in her motor vehicle.
Both drivers were taken to the hospital. Ms. Hanson was admitted with severe injuries and Ms. Lynchschuyler was treated, released and taken to police headquarters, where she posted bail and was released to a family member.
Hopewell police units, the Hopewell Fire Department and Rescue Squad, and Capital Health paramedics were dispatched.
The case has been forwarded to the Mercer County Prosecutor’s Office.
