OLD BRIDGE — The 2016 Sports Classic held by the Raritan Bay Medical Center Foundation (RBMCF) raised more than $113,000 for improved equipment at the hospital.
The event held on May 23 at the Deal Golf and Country Club by event co-chairs Walter Brasch and Joe Britton saw 116 golfers compete while raising money for advanced surgical equipment at the hospital, according to a statement released by RBMC.
In addition, the laparoscopic equipment being purchased with the funds raised from the outing was on display during a reception for guests to learn more about how this innovative tool will enhance the medical center’s surgical services, the statement said.
“The funds generated through the Sports Classic are going to make a huge impact on the way surgery is performed at Raritan Bay Medical Center,” said RBMC President and Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executive (FACHE) Michael R. D’Agnes in the statement. “With this laparoscopic equipment, our physicians can perform minimally invasive surgery, which provides a number of advantages to patients including reduced pain and shorter recovery times.”
Also during the reception, patient Thomas McAuliffe of Woodbridge and his physician, Dr. Kenneth G. Swan Jr., shared a heartfelt testimony about the care that was provided to McAuliffe at the hospital, the statement said. Swan is the director of the Division of Orthopedic Surgery as well as the medical director of the Human Motion Institute at RBMC.
Leadership sponsors included the Atrium Post Acute Center of Matawan, Investors Bank of Woodbridge, Med-Metrix, Prudential, University Radiology and RBMC’s medical staff.
