PLUMSTED – Having just completed a fundraiser which saw its members collect unwanted bicycles and donate them to an organization that will assist children in Trenton, Plumsted Youth for Nature and the Environment (PYNE) is on to its next community service project.
PYNE is collecting used handbags for the Mercer County affiliate of Dress for Success. The handbag collection began on Aug. 2 and will run through Oct. 15. PYNE Secretary Rachel Mayer is coordinating the “Lend A Helping Hand-bag” drive.
“This drive will benefit women in the area,” Rachel said. “Handbags that are collected will be given to women who are less fortunate and who are looking for jobs and are looking to make an impact economically and independently so they can support their family.”
PYNE President Dominic Esposito said handbags that some people do not use or do not need anymore can make a difference for others.
“The handbag drive gives people a chance to recycle a handbag that might otherwise be thrown in the trash. (Reusing handbags) will help lessen the burden on landfills,” Dominic said.
Dress for Success helps disadvantaged women gain economic independence and obtain employment. The organization provides its clients with business attire and prepares them to support their families.
Drop boxes for handbag donations may be found at the Plumsted Township municipal building, Evergreen Road, and at Salon Bliss, 413 Route 539, Cream Ridge. For more information or to arrange for handbags to be picked up, contact Rachel Mayer at 609–947-5143 or at [email protected]
